Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has been Phi Mu’s national philanthropic partner since 1986. “To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand.” The first line of Phi Mu’s Creed has been a call to serve others since it was written more than 100 years ago. From our earliest days of supporting a health mobile that delivered health care to women and children in rural areas to supporting toy carts for children in hospitals to our current partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Phi Mu has long been committed to lending a helping hand to those in need.
We are proud to be the only sorority to partner with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and have an alliance with the National Women’s History Museum. We were also the first sorority to establish a National Philanthropy Day more than 20 years ago. Lending a helping hand is at the heart of who we are as Phi Mus.
Lambda Beta's Philanthropy
The first line of Phi Mu’s Creed, “To lend to those less fortunate a helping hand,” was written more than 100 years ago, and it still guides everything we do. From an early healthmobile bringing care to women and children in rural communities, to toy carts for children in hospitals, to our current partnership with Children’s Miracle Network, the intent has remained the same: show up for others, consistently and with heart. That commitment has taken many forms over the years. Phi Mu is the only sorority to partner with Children’s Miracle Network. In 1999, we were the first sorority to establish a National Philanthropy Day, when all members provide hands-on service in their local community. In 2016, Phi Mu began the tradition of hosting a Philanthropy Project at every national convention. These aren’t just milestones. They’re evidence of a value that has always been central to who we are.Service isn’t something Phi Mu added on. It’s something we were built on.National service and philanthropy event opportunities will be promoted on Phi Mu’s social media channels. Local collegiate and alumnae chapters also hold philanthropy events throughout the year.Childrens Miracle NetworkSince 1986, Phi Mu has raised over $26.5 million for Children’s Miracle Network and in 2019, we were recognized as a CMN Miracle Million Club member, an honor for corporate partners that raise more than $1 million each year. Children’s Miracle Network ® raises funds and awareness for 170 member hospitals that provide 32 million treatments each year to kids across the U.S. and Canada.Donations stay local to fund critical treatments and healthcare services, pediatric medical equipment and charitable care. Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network has raised more than $5 billion, most of it $1 at a time through the charity’s Miracle Balloon icon. Its various fundraising partners, including Phi Mu, and programs support the nonprofit’s mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.Lending a Helping Hand: Because Kids Can’t WaitAll funds raised for Children’s Miracle Network stay in the local community for patient care, new equipment and research on children’s diseases, illnesses and injuries. Our members are passionate about CMN and provide financial support through their local philanthropic initiatives including toy and supply drives, BonnaMu music festivals, food-based fundraisers and sporting events for the campus community. Each year, approximately 65 children’s hospitals nationwide benefit from Phi Mu’s collegiate and alumnae chapter fundraising events.
